Oretta Ollison, (born July 5, 1966) is an American entrepreneur, entertainer and innovator. She is the founder of FunShine Entertainment and Dacalli. Oretta is currently based in Houston, Texas. She tweets from @oollison and emails from oretta@orettaollison.com

Early Years

Oretta grew up in Midland, Texas, where she graduated from Lee High School in 1984. Shortly after high school she attended the University of Houston-Downtown and Houston Community College. She has sold home security alarms door-to-door, been a marketing representative selling engineering services, a trainer, and a motivational speaker for one of the toughest audiences – high school students.

In the Fall of 1996 a friend suggested Oretta take an acting class to strengthen her communication skills. After getting over the boldness of her friends recommendation, Oretta took her first class and was instantly bitten by the acting bug. From 1996 to 2000 she performed at the Company OnStage Theatre and was seen in
Rumors, The Little Foxes, and Winnie the Pooh. She also performed in To Kill A Mockingbird at Theatre Southwest.

Oretta was determined to strengthen her stage knowledge. She was also the stage manager for several productions including: Rumors, Charlotte’s Web, The Sisters Rosensweig, Aladdin and The Wonderful Lamp, and The Sorcerer’s Other Apprentice. This experience helped her learn to see a show from the director’s point of view, and has been instrumental in her own script writing and school show productions.

FunShine Entertainment

In 2001 Oretta was introduced to the fantastic world of clowning. From the beginning, it was easy to see how her past had prepared her for this new adventure. Face painting, balloon art, storytelling and laughter. She had been bitten by the bug again.

For the next six years Oretta worked with numerous entertainers to sharpen her performance skills. In 2007, she founded FunShine Entertainment specializing in fun family entertainment.

FunShine Entertainment is a cast of young, talented, energetic entertainers. They continue to provide face painting and balloon twisting at kid's parties, schools, community outreach, and corporate events throughout the Houston area.

It’s been said that if you have a itch – scratch it. FunShine had a big itch. Business was great and they were busy. But scheduling was becoming a nightmare. With multiple events scheduled at the same time, things began to slip through the cracks.

Dacalli was born from the sheer frustration of trying to manage entertainer schedules and vital customer information. Accidental double bookings…important client information written on miscellaneous pieces of paper…hard to read paper calendars that were worn thin because of constant schedule changes and modifications – they needed a solution.

In the beginning, Oretta didn’t set out to build a business management software. She searched the internet and found plenty of generic software that had one or two features added to give the “impression” that it was for entertainers, but it was obvious that it wasn’t designed for entertainers or by entertainers.

In 2010, the Dacalli team started work to build a easy to use business management system. They were building something for themselves, so they already had a good idea what the problem was and how to solve it. Oretta chose to forgo the traditional funding route of most technology start-ups. Instead of making endless pitches to venture capitalists and angel investors, she bootstrapped Dacalli and paid for it one birthday party at a time. After three years of development, Dacalli launched July 5th, 2013.

Doing What She Loves....

Library Show - Teaching the importance of being a friend and sharing.

Library Show - Teaching how eating healthy foods are yummy and help you grow stronger.

Balloon Art Workshop - Oretta had lots of fun with a local Girl Scout Troupe. They learned how easy and fun balloon twisting can be. The troupe used their skills to complete a service project by going to a local daycare and making balloons for the children. This picture was featured in the Houston Chronicle.

Just Clowning Around Workshop - Oretta had a really great opportunity to teach a church youth group clowning and balloon twisting. They were awesome! A few months later, the youth group went on a mission trip to Africa. They made lots of cool balloons for the children in the villages.
